Reiki helps to balance the body, mind and spirit.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese name meaning Universal Life Energy which is channelled through the practitioner to the recipient. Reiki is a natural healing technique that can use laying-on of hands to balance the body, mind and spirit which makes the body healthy, and helps you achieve happiness.
Reiki does not replace tradtional medicine, but rather complements the healing process by accelerating the body's ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease, pain and disharmony. It encourages one to take responsibility for one's life and good health. The sensation felt by the recipient of a Reiki treatment is usually a deep feeling of relaxation, warmth, and comfort.
The Usui System
The Usui System was born out of the experience of Dr. Mikaw Usui, a Japanese Christian educator studied the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual healers. Dr. Usui received the complete system of Reiki during a mystical experience on the holy mountain Kori-yama. He dedicated his life practicing and teaching this method of natural healing, involving attunement to energy and the laying of hands. The Usui system of Reiki continues to be taught today by Reiki masters who are trained in the original traditions of Reiki and whose lives are committed to this healing art and lifestyle.
What to Expect During a Reiki Treatment
A Reiki Treatment is a gentle hands-on process whereby a Reiki practioner transfers universal life force to the recipient. The recipient remains fully clothed while recieving the safe and non-intrusive treatment. During a typical whole body treatment the recipient lies down, usually on a massage table, and relaxes. Loose clothing is worn during the treatment. The practitioner usually takes a few moments to enter a calm meditative state of mind to prepare for the treatment, that is usually carried out without talking.
The treatment proceeds with the practitioner placing his hands on or near the recepient in various positions. The hands are usually still for 3 to 5 minutes before moving to a new position. The hand positions usually cover the head, front and back of the torso, knees and feet. The whole treatment lasts 45 to 90 minutes and between 12 to 20 positions are used.
Some practioners use intution to guide them as to where the treatment is needed and other practitioners use a fixed set of hand positions. Sometimes the practioner will start with a scan of the body to find areas.
During a Reiki Treatment, the Recipient often feels warmth or tingling in the treated area. Emotional releases can occur as well as a state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of well-being. Instantaneous "cures" of specific health problems are not usually observed, as the Reiki treatment is said to be stimulating natural healing processes. If a chronic condition is being addressed, a series of three or more treatments, typicially 1 to 7 days apart, is usually recommended. Well-being can be maintained with regular treatments on an on-going basis with intervals between treatments typically is in the range of 1 to 4 weeks.
Localized treatments involve the practitioners hands being held on or near a specific body part. Recent injuries are treated in this way, with the injury site being targeted. 20 minuties might be typical treatment time. Another approach is to give a whole body treatment then, followed by more specific areas.
